About the Ujima Freedom School

The Ujima Freedom School is the local site of a Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School®, which is located at Bottenfield Elementary in Champaign. It is a six-week summer educational program that offers a literacy and culturally enriching curriculum that strengthens academic, civic, and socioemotional skills in a creative and engaging way. The program is committed to fifty rising young scholars in Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade. Children and youth actively learn and participate in a safe environment with a team that consists of a Project Director, Site Coordinators, and Servant Leader Interns (SLI).
